Zumba: Cardio, dance and fun. Scroll all the way down for more details on zumba. Bring dance or zumba shoes they have a circle on the sole of the shoe to pivot safely. We suggest that you have shoes for dance and only go on our hard wood floor and the street shoes are not used in the studio (there are people lying on the floor doing yoga after zumba!)
Yoga 4 Every BODY: At Westchester Yoga Arts we want yoga to be accessible. Far too many people on the quest to loose weight and/or to get back in shape are intimidated when they walk into a yoga class at a gym or elsewhere. This class was created to resolve this conflict so that more people can discover the incredible benefits of yoga and feel good about themselves too.
Yoga Xpress: 50-minute class, usually an Open class. See information below.
Open/Mixed Level: Mixed level students in the same class. Students work at their own pace and ability level.
Gentle Yoga: A gentler, slower-paced practice for people of all sizes, ages and fitness levels. Have you heard somewhere that even people in hospitals do yoga? This is true! If they can, so can YOU! Our Gentle Yoga is for you! In Gentle Yoga, our teachers incorporate pranayama [breath], gentle asanas [poses] and meditation in every class.
Focus is on:
Proper spinal alignment for every pose.
Advising students to move gently through and within poses.
Incorporating spinal stabilization exercises in every class.
Featuring poses that are comfortable and steady.
Encouraging participants to rest whenever needed.
Making students aware of when to use a chair or wall.
Restorative Yoga: This class focus is on restful postures and is designed to “re-boot” your nervous system and balance out your body. Practicing this form of yoga will give immediate results by lowering your blood pressure and heart rate. It also loosens up joints with ease. Restorative Yoga will help to keep your endocrine system in check and even boost the immune system. Great practice for all ages!
Level 1: A moderately-paced class for beginners with knowledge of the basics. This class helps build strength, increase flexibility, and deepen concentration. The class provides emphasis on breathing and healthy alignment.
NOTE: An Open/Level 1 class means that it's a little more advanced than a Level 1 class but Level 1 folks would be able to do the class.
Level 2: A somewhat faster-paced class, as students are a bit more experienced and require less direction to follow the flow of poses. You may expect to find that a Level 2 class would have arm balances, a strong cardio component, a bit more advanced inversions and a creative vinyasa flow.
Power Up the Core: A Vinyasa* class, focusing on the core (under the neck to the hips.) This is an area often compromised by poor posture, injuries, age, pregnancies, and the like. A Vinyasa practice incorporates poses to strengthen the core, yet keeps flexiblity in the arms, shoulders, back and abdominal area.
*Vinyasa - What does that mean?
Vinyasa means "flow". During class students move, or flow, from one pose to the next, rather than holding one pose for a longer time.
