What kind of Yoga is taught at Westchester Yoga Arts?

Our lineage a few yoga-generations ago is Paramahansa Yogananda to Swami Satchidananda, Integral Yoga to Yoga Haven. Classes follow the structure set forth in the Raja Yoga path, which means classes will usually be taught in the following order: standing poses, balances, back bends, hip openers, twists, forward bends and inversions. This sequence opens up the opportunity for the students' energy to flow on a journey up the chakras, allowing the energy to balance out all parts of the body. The class is usually a mix of vinyasa [i.e. moving in and out of poses] and hatha [i.e. holding a pose]. As all teachers at the studio are invited and encouraged to express their own creativity as teachers - no class is the same - just as no teacher is the same. Some teachers who are also certified to teach Bikram for example, teach with that influence. Some teachers who are dancers teach with more flow and movements. Some teachers are medical doctors and teach with more alignment focus on the body. All teach with heart and a conviction that yoga is transformational.

Every single one of our teachers teach yoga because they care.  Seeking a sense of personal fulfillment and wanting to share the positive life changing effect of yoga - they chose to train as yoga teachers.  They make a difference in the world with each class they teach.  Our teachers care about their students.  For a complete listing of all WYA's teachers, please scroll to the bottom of the page.

This studio is a community...of people who know each others names and faces.
We are passionate about sharing the millenia-old practice of yoga.  We bring it to our community in an accessible way, adapted to our New York lifestyle.   We promote healthy living, community, and gently invite students along the path of self-awareness.
